2015 Kyle is part of the Wisconsin Division 3 State Runner Up Xavier Hawks

What a fun 2015 for the Van Hammond's as well as the entire Xavier basketball family. Not only did the girls make the State Tournament and finish 2nd in Division 3 but the boys repeated that feat the following weekend. That is two more silver balls for the Xavier Trophy case!

We had a crazy ride with an extremely competitive Eastern Valley Conference where three teams were ranked in the top 10 in State (Ripon, Freedom and Xavier). Those three teams beat up on each other all year; while Xavier was predicted to finish third or fourth in the conference, we won back-to-back Conference titles!

Our road to State went through Omro, and Freedom in Regionals, Peshtigo and Valders in Sectionals.

At State, we played a very good East Troy team that turned out to be the best game of the entire tournament. East Troy lead much of the game until the final few minutes of the game when East Troy, maintaining a 64-59 lead, missed three consecutive front ends of a bonus within the last 2:30 of the game, had two of its starters foul out near the end of the game and also had two huge turnovers in the final 24 seconds. Sam Burkart scored the Hawks' final six points, including the last two on a pair of free throws with 6.1 seconds left that gave Xavier the lead for the first time since early in the first quarter. (Post Crescent coverage)

Xavier faced Brown Deer in the Division 3 State Championship game on March 21st. Brown Deer was clearly a good team and proved to be too much for the Hawks. Kyle was quoted as saying "That's got to be, without a doubt, the quickest team we played all year". The Brown Deer quickness was too much for us and we went down 74-60. (Post Crescent Coverage)

Congratulations to the 2014-15 Wisconsin Division 3 State Runner up Xavier Hawks!

To wrap up the season, Kyle and his friend, Christian Seidler were asked to be on the Post Crescent Varsity Roundtable which is a streamed high school sports show to talk about their season. You can check that out here.
