2019 - Charleston & the Outer Banks

Since our summer vacations were "interrupted" with the deer encounter, we needed to get away for a little relaxation so we took a car vacation.

Our first stop was in Raleigh, NC to spend an afternoon with our GodDaughter Nicole and her dad, Steve. We hadn't seen either in several years and really enjoyed the time catching up.

We then traveled to Charleston, SC where we enjoyed the beautiful city as well as a neat tour of Fort Sumter.

Our next stop was the North Carolina Outer Banks. The weather was not ideal but we enjoyed walking the beach and seeing the area.

On the northern end of the Outer Banks is the Kitty Hawk area so we took the opportunity to visit the Wright Brothers Museum. Sadly, we drove right past the other Write Museum in Dayton, OH on our way out here so we'll need to save that for another trip.

While we're not really "lighthouse people", The Hatteras Island lighthouse was really neat to see. The lighthouse was in danger of getting consumed by the ocean and was literally moved about 1500 feet further inland. The engineering effort to move it was quite interesting.

We did make a stop at Virginia Beach, VA on our way home. We'll save pictures of that for another trip; we will definitely visit Virginia Beach again in the summer!
